Connect your GitHub account to let the Canvas Agent use your code during an investigation. GitHub takes one step the other connectors do not. A Honeycomb Team Owner installs the Honeycomb GitHub App, and a GitHub organization admin authorizes it. Each person then connects their own GitHub account. GitHub becomes available only when both are done.
Connectors work on a per-user basis. You connect your own account and the Canvas Agent uses the connected tool as your account. Connecting a tool does not connect it for anyone else on your Honeycomb Team. There are no Team-level connector controls yet.

What the Canvas Agent can do

Read repositories, pull requests, and issues.
The GitHub connector is read-only. The Canvas Agent cannot change anything in your repositories.

Access this connector grants

The Canvas Agent authenticates to GitHub with your identity. It can access metadata for any repository, public or private, that your GitHub account can see. The GitHub App installation permissions restrict the private repository contents it is allowed to read.

Installing the Honeycomb GitHub App

To complete this task, you must be a Team Owner.
  1. Navigate to Canvas > Connectors.
  2. Find GitHub in the connector list and select Connect.
  3. Authorize the Honeycomb GitHub App for your GitHub organization.
  4. Choose the Honeycomb Teams, Environments, and Datasets to connect.
A GitHub organization admin must approve the Honeycomb GitHub App. If you do not hold that role, ask an admin in your GitHub organization to approve it.
You can also install the App from Account > Team Settings > Integrations. Team Members who are not Team Owners see no Connect action until the App is installed.

Connecting your GitHub account

  1. Navigate to Canvas > Connectors.
  2. Find GitHub in the connector list.
  3. Select Connect.
  4. Authorize the Honeycomb GitHub App for your account.
GitHub shows a Connected badge once the App is installed and your account is authorized.
Account > My account > Canvas Integrations also connects your GitHub account. Use the Connectors page instead, where every Canvas connector is set up.

Turning GitHub on or off

  1. In a Canvas chat, select the plus (+) button.
  2. Choose Connectors.
  3. Use the toggle beside GitHub.

Disconnecting GitHub

  1. Navigate to Canvas > Connectors.
  2. Find GitHub and select Manage.
  3. Select Disconnect.
